Overview

This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity located in Evanston, IL. This position exists to lead the design and execution of data architecture and management strategies that enable secure, efficient, and innovative use of research and operational data. The Data Architect will play a key role in enhancing data governance, accessibility, and utilization while supporting research initiatives and leveraging AI and emerging technologies.

What You Bring to the Role (Ideal Experience)

8+ years of experience in data management, governance, or data strategy- preferably in a research or scientific environment.

Proven background as a Data Architect or in a similar role, with success designing and implementing effective technical solutions across platforms.

Demonstrated ability to integrate diverse systems, APIs, and data sources for consistent, streamlined workflows.

Experience with scientific computing, high-performance computing (HPC), or AI/ML-driven research.

Knowledge of regulated and standards-driven data environments. Strong leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to align technical strategies with research and business objectives.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related field.

What You'll Do (Skills Used in this Position)

Develop and execute a comprehensive data management strategy across the organization.

Design and implement scalable data architectures, including data lakes, warehouses, and real-time analytics systems.

Standardize data governance, storage, and accessibility to enhance research efficiency and compliance.

Implement data security policies including encryption, access controls, and monitoring. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including researchers, engineers, and IT.

Track and report on key performance metrics, ensuring adherence to metadata and data lineage best practices.

Stay current with emerging technologies, AI, and data regulations to drive innovation.

Lead organization-wide data initiatives and foster a culture of structured data management.

Compensation Information

The expected salary range for this position is $115,000- $163,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This role also qualifies for comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.

This role requires authorization to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
