The BA / QA Engineer serves as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, combining requirements, analysis expertise with hands-on quality assurance to ensure that delivered solutions both meet strategic objectives and adhere to the highest standards of functionality and reliability. This unique role involves eliciting and documenting business needs, translating them into technical specifications, and designing and executing comprehensive test strategies throughout the software development lifecycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

Business Analysis

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with business owners, product managers, and end-users to understand objectives, processes, pain points, and success criteria.
  • Requirements Gathering: Facilitate workshops, interviews, and surveys to elicit business and functional requirements.
  • Documentation & Modelling: Create and maintain clear, detailed process maps, use cases, workflow diagrams, and user stories.
  • Gap Analysis & Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies, propose enhancements, and recommend best practices to optimize operational workflows.
  • Solution Design Support: Work with architects and developers to validate that proposed designs align with business goals and technical feasibility.

Quality Assurance

  • Test Planning & Strategy: Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and test scripts covering functional, regression, performance, and usability scenarios.
  • Test Execution & Reporting: Perform manual and automated testing; log, track, and prioritize defects.
  • Automation: Design, build, and maintain automated test suites (e.g., Selenium, Unit Testing frameworks) to accelerate regression cycles.
  • Continuous Integration: Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and monitor builds for quality regressions.
  • Quality Risk Assessment: Participate in requirements and design reviews to assess testability, identify quality risks, and suggest mitigations.
  • Metrics & Analysis: Analyse test results, defect trends, and coverage metrics; provide insights and recommendations for continuous quality improvements.

Cross-Functional Duties

  • Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Serve as point of contact between business stakeholders and development/test teams throughout planning, build, and release phases.
  • Maintain and update project artifacts and dashboards in tools such as Confluence, Visio, and reporting platforms.
  • Conduct training sessions and create user guides for both business users and QA team members.

Qualifications & Skills

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Experience:

  • 2+ years as a Business Analyst and Quality Assurance in IT or enterprise environments.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Business analysis tools: JIRA, Confluence, Visio (or equivalent BPM tools).
  • QA tools and frameworks: Selenium, Unit Testing frameworks, performance tools.
  • Familiarity with SQL and data analysis/reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).
  • Basic scripting or programming skills in JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, Bash.
  • Cloud platforms (AWS) experience and certifications are a plus.

Certifications (Desirable):

  • CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, ISTQB, AWS Certified Tester/Developer.
