Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on House & Garden Maintenance Manager to oversee the upkeep of a beautiful five-bedroom family home with extensive gardens in Bowdon, Cheshire. You will work closely with the housekeeper to ensure the property and grounds remain immaculate, welcoming, and fully operational all year-round making the role your own and adapting it as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Upkeep:
    • Maintain the interior and exterior of the home to a high standard.
    • Keep the gardens neat, tidy, and seasonally appropriate with fresh planting and ongoing care.An understanding of where to plant certain flowers and when to plant them is essential.
  • Managing Maintenance Schedules:
    • Develop and manage preventative maintenance plans for household systems such as plumbing, electrical and appliances.
    • Monitor and log routine maintenance to ensure smooth running of the property.
  • Coordinating Repairs & Renovations:
    • Source quotes, schedule, and supervise external contractors when required.
    • Ensure work is completed to a high standard, on time, and with minimal disruption.
  • DIY & Small Repairs:
    • Carry out minor repairs and improvements around the house and garden independently.
    • Basic plumbing, painting, DIY, and troubleshooting tasks expected.
  • Budget & Procurement:
    • Manage a maintenance budget and keep track of expenditure.
    • Order necessary parts, tools, and supplies in a cost-effective manner.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:
    • Quickly identify and resolve issues related to household systems or garden maintenance before they escalate.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years experience in a similar role within a private household.
  • Strong hands-on skills with the ability to tackle a variety of DIY and maintenance tasks.
  • Comfortable working independently and alongside household staff.
  • Proven experience managing contractors and overseeing home projects.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Keen eye for presentation, especially in maintaining gardens and outdoor areas.
  • Must be a driver with your own car this is essential due to the location and nature of the role.
  • A DBS check must be in place.
