VMS (Variable Message Sign) Driver Operative, £25,300, Thornbury/Falfield
The Role:
The primary role of a VMS Driver Operative is to support the VMS operations team in deploying, setting up, and collecting VMS (Variable Message Sign) units at customer locations. The role involves carrying out off-hire inspections, minor repairs, and preparing units for hire at the depot. It also includes performing battery exchanges, cleaning, and inspections on long-term hired units in the field. Additionally, the role requires assisting the local depot in preparing, delivering, and collecting traffic lights and other VMS products.
The Responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and environmental regulations during work at depots and customer sites.
- Conduct oneself courteously and professionally when attending client sites and follow all local site rules.
- Maintain professional working relationships with colleagues across all departments.
- Deliver and collect VMS, CCTV, and traffic lights.
- Carry out full inspections, servicing, and repairs on the hire fleet.
- Complete all relevant delivery, collection, and inspection paperwork.
- Identify fair wear and tear and customer damage on equipment.
- Ensure cleanliness and legal compliance of assigned vehicles and work tools.
- Quarantine all equipment that isn't fit for purpose until repairs are carried out.
- Liaise with customers before and after visits.
- Work safely, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain a neat work area.
- Occasional working away from home and night shift work may be required.
The Essentials:
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
- Full driving license with no more than 6 points.
The Desirables:
- Basic electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working within a highway environment.
- Basic knowledge of traffic light equipment.
- CSCS card holder.
- Competent in driving company vans and pickups up to 3.5 tons and towing trailers with loaded plant equipment.
The Qualifications:
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics.
- City and Guilds or equivalent qualification in highway installations.
- Sector 8 Accreditation, Health and Safety qualifications (e.g., NRSWA, G39, ECS).
