Senior Storage and Backup Administrator

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

1. Storage Management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise storage solutions, including SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage).
  • Monitor and manage storage capacity, performance, and scalability.
  • Conduct storage system audits and assessments to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

2. Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive backup and recovery strategies.
  • Ensure data integrity and availability through regular backups and disaster recovery planning.
  •  Implement and maintain data replication and high-availability solutions.

3. Data Security and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with data storage regulations and best practices.
  • Implement robust security measures to protect data from unauthorized access and breaches.
  • Conduct routine security audits and vulnerability assessments.

4. Automation and Scripting:

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline storage and backup tasks.
  • Utilize tools like PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation.

5. Documentation and Reporting:

  •  Maintain detailed documentation of storage and backup systems, configurations, and procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, capacity, and security

Education and Qualification

  • A bachelors degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is often preferred

Experience

  • Typically, 10+ years of experience in storage and backup administration.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Storage Networking Expert (CSNE) or Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) are beneficial.
  • Certifications in specific storage technologies (e.g., NetApp, EMC, Huawei) and backup solutions (e.g., Avamar, Networker, Veritas, Veeam) are also advantageous.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, and KVM.
  • Ability to manage virtualized storage environments and integrate them with physical storage solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with other operating systems such as Windows Server and Solaris

Special Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and backup solutions.
  • Familiarity with storage management tools and software.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Configure and manage SAN switches including Zoning on both (brocade and Cisco switches)
