Position Summary

The Controls Engineer is responsible for design, development, and testing of control functions spanning across all EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) with controls content. This position provides a unique opportunity to interact with all EVSE subsystems with controls content, and thus quickly gain a broad understanding of charging industry and operation through design, implementation, and hands-on testing of control functions on simulator and EVSE. The successful controls engineer will efficiently capture and decompose requirements, define interfaces, implement, and test assigned features and functions. Participate in system level FMEAs and system safety analyses. Conduct design reviews and defend recommendations. Use data from fielded EVSE to provide duty cycles for sub-system and component design inputs

Position Responsibilities

  • Deliver documentation or designs as required, capture requirements and use cases as required
  • Develop test procedures to validate functionality (unit test, SIL, etc.)
  • Create test plan definition for new products with continuous feedback for new hardware/software revisions
  • Working knowledge of working with high power/high voltage products.
  • Work with suppliers, and various Charge Point Operators.
  • Work effectively in a fast paced, complex technical environment with high adaptability and flexibility
  • Work with product managers, project managers and technical teams in order to deliver high-quality products that meet business objectives
  • Ability to Travel 10-25%

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 4 years of related engineering experience, or advanced degree with 4-6 years control engineering experience.
  • Preparation of system design descriptions, logic diagrams and functional block diagrams, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Define interfaces among control applications within software
  • Prepare and present technical design decisions and results to internal and external stakeholders as necessary
  • Demonstrated experience with model-based control verification and validation tools and practices, including but not limited to model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (SIL) and rapid prototyping.
  • Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 Ladder programming language (PLC CodeSys 2 and 3)
  • Expertise in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, and Python
  • Good fundamental programming skills & practices, including: development, debug, start-up, revision control & state control programming structure
  • Basic understanding of Electrical Schematics
  • Experience with one or multiple communications protocols like CAN, BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP using wired or wireless.
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with cross-functional teams and external customers.
