Role Overview:
The NDIS Quality and Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring the organisation meets all NDIS Practice Standards, legislative obligations, and internal governance requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance, managing risk, conducting internal audits, and ensuring policies, procedures, and documentation are current, controlled, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure ongoing compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, NDIS Code of Conduct, and relevant legislation
- Prepare, maintain, and support the organisation for NDIS audits (certification, surveillance, and internal audits)
- Act as a key contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies
- Monitor compliance obligations and implement corrective and preventive actions
Internal Audits & Risk Management
- Plan and conduct internal audits across service delivery and corporate functions
- Identify compliance gaps and areas of risk, and develop improvement plans
- Maintain and update the Risk Register
- Act as a risk assessor/risk assumer, supporting informed decision-making and risk mitigation strategies
Policies, Procedures & Documentation
- Develop, review, and update policies and procedures aligned with NDIS Practice Standards
- Ensure documents are fit-for-purpose, clearly written, and consistently applied
- Manage document control and version control, ensuring only current versions are in use
- Maintain a central compliance and quality documentation system
Continuous Improvement
- Support a culture of continuous quality improvement across the organisation
- Analyse incidents, complaints, and feedback to identify systemic improvements
- Provide compliance advice and guidance to leadership and staff
Training & Support
- Deliver or coordinate compliance-related training for staff
- Support staff understanding of policies, procedures, and compliance obligations
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in an NDIS Quality, Compliance, or Governance role
- Strong experience in internal auditing and audit preparation
- Proven knowledge of NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework
- Experience in risk management, including risk assessment and mitigation
- Strong policy and procedure development skills
- Experience managing document version control systems
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Commitment to quality, compliance, and participant safety
- Ethical, professional, and proactive
Desirable:
- Lead or Internal Auditor qualification
- Experience working within disability, health, or community services
- Familiarity with ISO or other quality frameworks
