General Description of Role and Responsibilities:
To lead and control the architectural execution of airport and building projects ensuring all Design & Build (D&B) contractors deliver in line with the RFP scope, technical specifications, and project schedule.
The Senior Architect acts as the clients technical lead on-site, managing contractors, coordinating design implementation, and ensuring adherence to quality, budget, and regulatory standards.
This role blends technical architecture expertise, project management, and fit-out execution oversight, ensuring design intent is fully realized through construction completion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contractor Management & Project Execution
- Manage and oversee Design & Build (D&B) contractors during design and construction phases.
- Review and facilitate shop drawings, design submittals, materials, finishes, and mock-ups, ensuring compliance with RFP, design intent, and specifications.
- Lead and coordinate architectural site supervision activities, ensuring that works meet approved standards, codes, and contractual deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to contractors, consultants, and site teams to resolve design and construction issues efficiently.
- Verify contractor progress against approved schedules; highlight risks and propose mitigation plans.
2. Planning, Scheduling & Reporting
- Translate RFP and design documentation into execution plans and detailed milestone schedules.
- Coordinate between design, procurement, and construction activities to ensure on-time delivery.
- Track contractor deliverables, verify progress reports, and support budget and timeline adherence.
- Prepare and present technical reports, progress dashboards, and risk assessments for management review.
- Prepare progress weekly reports, presentations, and KPIs
3. Technical Coordination & Interface Management
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines (civil, structural, MEP, systems) to resolve design conflicts and ensure constructability.
- Review and manage Raised document from contractors and engineering (e.g. RFI, NCR, etc) and ensure prompt, well-documented responses.
- Monitor design change requests, evaluate technical and financial impacts, and manage approval workflow.
- Coordinate with authorities and airport stakeholders for permits, NOCs, and construction passes.
- Facilitate communication and approvals between contractors, consultants, and client departments.
- Participate in technical coordination and progress meetings, providing clear direction and decisions.
5. Risk Management & Problem Solving
- Identify potential technical, schedule, or quality risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
- Resolve site issues pragmatically while maintaining design integrity and compliance.
- Support dispute resolution or variation claims by providing technical and contractual insights.
- Manage invoices and milestone deliverables packages.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture (Master's preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 12-15 years, with at least 5 years in airport projects and fit-out construction (e.g., terminals, lounges, offices, or hospitality facilities).
- Background: Proven experience managing Design & Build / EPC contractors in complex, fast-track environments.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of architectural detailing, interior fit-out, and building systems integration.
- Codes & Standards: Proficient in GACA / ICAO, NFPA, SBC, and local authority requirements.
- Software: AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, MS Project, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite.
- Certifications (Preferred): PMP, LEED, or BIM Certification.
- Language: Excellent command of English (Arabic preferred)
