At HIPP, mechanical engineers design mechanical systems and utilities for industrial facilities and specialize in the design of HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection systems for pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants from conceptual to detailed design.

Responsibilities and Tasks 

Responsibilities and tasks focus on HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection systems and include but are not limited to:

  • Estimating heating and cooling load requirements for HVAC systems
    Calculating external static pressure for HVAC systems
  • Preparing HVAC zoning, pressurization and air flow diagrams. Preparing ductwork layouts, details, and elevations
  • Sizing and selecting equipment
  • Performing mechanical utility calculations and establishing requirements
    Gathering preliminary cut sheets and vendor quotes for new generation equipment
  • Preparing general arrangement drawings
  • Preparing construction and equipment specifications
  • Preparing piping P&IDs layouts, details, isometrics and elevations
    Reviewing fire protection requirements
  • Calculating hydronic piping pressure drops and sizing pumping systems
    Performing plumbing fixture load calculations
  • Determining plumbing requirements
  • Interpreting and staying current with Standards and Code
  • Verifying field information onsite
  • Participating in project interdisciplinary coordination meetings
  • Collaborating with team members to prepare mechanical utility basis of design and narratives

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • P.E. certification required
  • 10-15 years of design firm experience; cGMP design experience preferred
  • Up to 5 years of CAD and/or Revit exposure preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
