About the job GIS/CAD Technician
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled GIS/CAD TECHNICIAN with a strong background in CAD, GIS analysis and utility mapping to support field and office operations in Lithonia, GA. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering, geospatial data, and field execution, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and real-time visibility of underground utility infrastructure.
The GIS/CAD TECHNICIAN will play a critical role in capturing, validating, and maintaining utility data using industry-leading platforms such as AutoCAD, Locusview, and CartoPAC, supporting both new construction and existing system updates.
Key Responsibilities
Perform field data collection and verification of underground utility assets, including gas, water, or telecom infrastructure
Utilize Locusview and CartoPAC to capture, document, and validate as-built data in real time
Develop and update AutoCAD drawings to reflect accurate field conditions and project progress
Support GIS data integrity, ensuring proper mapping, layering, and asset traceability
Collaborate with construction crews, project managers, and engineering teams to ensure alignment between field activities and design plans
Conduct quality control checks on collected data to ensure compliance with company and client standards
Assist in project reporting, including progress tracking, documentation, and data submission
Maintain adherence to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements in field environments
Required Qualifications
1–3+ years of experience in GIS, utility mapping, or field engineering
Strong working knowledge of: AutoCAD, Locusview, CartoPAC
Background as a GIS Analyst or GIS Technician supporting infrastructure or utility projects
Experience with as-built documentation and underground utility mapping
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction plans
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy and integrity
Valid driver's license with the ability to travel locally to job sites
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree or technical certification in GIS, Engineering Technology, or related field
Experience working in natural gas, telecom, or utility construction environments
Familiarity with GPS data collection tools and geospatial technologies
