About the job Diesel Mechanic
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic with a strong background in maintaining forklifts, tractors, and trucks, preferably MAN trucks. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years' post-trade experience and be able to perform maintenance and repairs on light and heavy-duty machinery, including diesel engines and associated components.
As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of equipment while adhering to company standards, safety regulations, and quality expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Breakdown Repairs & Preventative Maintenance:
Perform daily breakdown repairs on light and heavy equipment such as forklifts, tractors, and trucks.
Conduct routine preventative maintenance and services as per schedules.
Ensure all job cards are completed accurately and submitted for documentation and record-keeping.
Maintain detailed service records for each piece of equipment.
2. Inspection & Fault Finding:
Inspect vehicles and equipment for signs of defects, wear, and malfunctions.
Perform diagnostic tests and fault analysis on diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and steering mechanics.
Document inspection findings and write detailed repair plans for each issue identified.
Report major faults to your Line Manager and ensure timely repair solutions.
3. Supervisory & Mentorship Responsibilities:
Manage and guide Mechanical Assistants in terms of time management and productivity.
Assist with HR/IR-related issues and contribute to the Performance Evaluation process for your team.
Identify skill gaps within your team and offer mentorship and coaching to foster career development.
4. General Support:
Assist in removal, repair, replacement, or modification of machine parts as instructed by the Line Manager.
Stand by after hours when required to address emergency breakdowns.
Attend daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
Participate in company-wide initiatives and actively contribute to company vision and mission.
5. Housekeeping & Safety Standards:
Maintain a clean and safe work area by following SOPs and using tools safely.
Ensure proper usage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
Practice OHS activities and contribute to the improvement of workplace health and safety.
Perform regular HACCP checks and ensure all tasks are completed according to safety and quality standards.
Store and clear tools after use, maintaining a tidy workshop environment.
6. Vehicle Service and Repairs Workshop:
Use maintenance tools and equipment to repair or replace components like engines, braking systems, and steering mechanisms.
Disassemble and reassemble machinery as needed to perform repairs or maintenance.
Conduct routine repairs such as oil changes, wheel balancing, brake checks, and tyre replacements.
Carry out diagnostic tests on diesel engines, interpret results, and offer suitable solutions.
Prepare vehicles for roadworthy testing and ensure compliance with environmental legislation related to vehicle emissions and air pollution standards.
Required Experience & Qualifications:

National Senior Certificate (or equivalent to NQF 4).

Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate.

Minimum 5 years post-trade experience as a Diesel Mechanic.

Code 14 drivers license.
- Experience in maintaining forklifts, tractors, and trucks is essential, and experience with MAN trucks is advantageous.

Own transport is required.
