The Opportunity
HireNow Staffing is partnering with a high-growth software development company to hire a Senior PR & Communications Manager who will build the PR function from the ground up.
This is a foundational, high-visibility role designed for a seasoned communications leader who thrives in fast-moving environments, knows how to create narrative from data, and has personally secured meaningful media coverage—not through delegation, but through execution.
You'll start as a team of one, owning strategy, messaging, and media relationships end to end, with the mandate to shift the company from reactive PR to a proactive, narrative-driven communications engine.
Why This Role Is Different
-
True ownership: You will define the narrative, not inherit it
-
Builder mindset required: No existing PR machine—this is a 01 role
-
Data-led storytelling: Proprietary insights, not generic announcements
-
AI & SMB focus: Positioning innovation with credibility and clarity
-
High expectations: This role values substance, speed, and precision
What You'll Do
Candidates must demonstrate strength across these responsibilities to be considered:
-
Build and execute a proactive PR and communications strategy from scratch
-
Transition PR efforts from reactive, agency-led activity to internally owned execution
-
Develop data-driven narratives using first-party insights to tell compelling stories about SMBs, technology, and market trends
-
Secure consistent Tier 1 and Tier 2 media coverage across U.S. business and technology outlets
-
Own messaging for AI initiatives, product launches, and company-defining moments
-
Partner directly with product, data, and leadership teams to surface insights and shape differentiated narratives
-
Serve as the internal expert on media strategy, positioning, and storytelling
-
Establish the foundation for scalable PR processes as the company grows
Required Qualifications
-
5–8+ years of PR and communications experience
-
In-house experience at a high-growth startup (required)
-
Demonstrated track record of securing Tier 1 and Tier 2 U.S. media coverage
-
Hands-on experience building PR strategy—not managing vendors exclusively
-
Strong data storytelling and narrative development skills
-
Established relationships with U.S.-based reporters (deal breaker)
-
Stable employment history with clear ownership and progression
Preferred Qualifications (Highly Important)
Standout candidates will bring multiple of the following:
-
Experience building a PR function from zero at a high-growth SMB SaaS company
-
Proven success positioning AI-driven products with clarity and credibility
-
Background working directly with product and analytics teams to extract stories from data
-
Experience telling SMB-focused narratives in competitive markets
-
Comfort operating with limited resources while delivering outsized impact
-
Ability to move quickly without sacrificing quality or strategic alignment
This Role Is Not a Fit for Candidates Who:
-
Have only agency experience without in-house startup ownership
-
Come from large, enterprise B2B companies with highly siloed roles
-
Lack Tier 1/Tier 2 media wins with U.S. outlets
-
Have freelance-heavy, short-term, or unstable work histories
-
Prefer slow-moving, highly structured corporate environments
