Back-End Developer

We are a leading e-commerce, shipping, and payment service in South Africa seeking a seasoned Back-End Developer with over 5 years of experience. In this role, you will design and develop robust server-side applications using our core tech stackGolang (Go) on AWS with PostgreSQL. If you excel at taking ownership of large and complex features, mentoring junior developers, and driving problem resolution, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

• Server-Side Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable and high-performance backend systems using Golang, deployed on AWS.

• Database Management: Work with PostgreSQL to ensure data integrity, optimize queries, and maintain database performance.

• API Integration: Develop and manage RESTful APIs ensuring smooth integration with front-end applications.

• Independent Feature Ownership: Work independently on complex features, ensuring tickets pass most testing/verification steps on the first round.

• Mentorship: Mentor less experienced team members and promote best practices across the development team.

• Quality Assurance: Regularly participate in code reviews, ensuring your code meets established coding standards.

  Collaboration & Design: Contribute to design discussions, propose architectural improvements, and consult seniors/leads for complex decisions.

• Problem Solving: Demonstrate a proactive attitude by determining and fixing root causes of issues.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Experience: 5+ years in back-end development.

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Golang with experience deploying on AWS.

  • Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL.

  • Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs.

  • Familiarity with agile development practices and version control systems (e.g., Git).

• Soft Skills:

  • Proven ability to work independently on complex projects.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.

  • Effective communication and a collaborative team spirit.

  • Capable of mentoring junior team members and contributing to peer code reviews.

• Work Arrangement: Must be available to work in a hybrid environment based out of Pretoria, South Africa.
