Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and integration of roof systems (soft-top, hardtop, convertible mechanisms) with emphasis on hardware components and material selection.
- Manage supplier relationships during development phases, ensuring technical alignment, quality deliverables, and adherence to timelines.
- Oversee material selection and optimization for roof components, balancing strength, durability, weight, and cost efficiency.
- Lead the sealing system design, ensuring optimal water-tightness, noise reduction, and long-term durability under real-world conditions.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, exterior body, and vehicle architecture teams for seamless integration into the full vehicle system.
- Define, develop, and approve technical specifications, material guidelines, and test plans for roof system components.
- Support prototype development and validation testing, ensuring compliance with durability, functionality, and environmental performance targets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, material, and sealing issues with suppliers and internal teams.
- Review supplier solutions and ensure they meet performance, safety, and aesthetic standards.
- Oversee the release of 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, ensuring feasibility and system compatibility.
- Participate in DFMEA and DVP activities to validate and continuously improve component and system reliability.
- Monitor project progress, addressing delays and mitigating technical risks in partnership with suppliers.
- Conduct real-world testing of sealing systems under varied environmental conditions to ensure robust performance.
- Drive continuous improvement through benchmarking, supplier feedback, and lessons learned across programs.
Requirements:
- Deep expertise in hardware design and materials engineering for automotive roof systems.
- Strong background in sealing system design, including knowledge of water-tightness, aero-acoustics, and durability.
- Solid understanding of material science (plastics, metals, composites) as applied to roof structure and mechanisms.
- Proven track record managing supplier development, ensuring delivery of high-quality, compliant components.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., CATIA V6, NX) and integration of components within vehicle packaging constraints.
- Strong experience in mechanical system development, including design validation and functional testing.
- In-depth knowledge of automotive regulatory standards and industry best practices for roof systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail in sealing, hardware, and integration challenges.
- Effective communication and project management skills; able to coordinate across internal functions and external partners.
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting critical development milestones.
