Job Summary

This position focuses on deployment of IT onboard vessels, most specifically supporting the New Builds within our Vessel Tech Program and is accountable for work assigned by the New Build Project Managers. He/She will work directly with the Shipyard, Projects & Technology, IT, 3rd party vendors and Vessel Deployment Team. Upon completion of the New Build program the role will transition back to Marine IT Operations supporting the Fleet, new and legacy, in an Infrastructure and Tier 3 support capacity.

He/She will require vessel attendances in the Asia region and possibly other Global locations. Travel could be up to 50% of the time and is schedule dependent on vessel contract delivery, but most prominently during the New Build IT commissioning stages.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the New Build Project Managers to plan and schedule IT ship visits to support the New Build program, most specifically during IT equipment commissioning and as required.
  • Provide weekly status reporting to the IT Deployment Project Managers for New Build Deployments
  • Attend regular daily standup meetings and project meetings scheduled by Project Managers.
  • Attend group meetings and be an IT leader during the contract delivery deployment, the go-live of vessel delivery.
  • Work with Naval Architects, IT Deployment Project Managers on Vessel Designs related to IT.
  • Assist with IT arrangements for infrastructure and RMS/OT applications, data collection applications, related to vessel delivery.
  • Provide guidance to the IT Deployment Project Mangers on issues, queries, and concerns while in vessel build phase, delivery, and post-delivery.
  • Accountable to deadlines and tasks on the JIRA storyboard for various oversight activities.
  • Provide high level of customer service with Captains and crew and act as an IT front facing resource to Captain, Crew, Fleet Operations during the New Build process.
  • Assist with handover of IT systems to Marine IT Operations.
  • Work with technical writers to develop documentation, standard operation procedures, and IT Operations manuals.
  • Liaise with department managers for various kinds of IT projects and requests as it relates to deployment of IT onboard.
  • Provide training to users and participate in IT projects when necessary.
  • Help resolve complex IT issues in a Tier 3 capacity.

Requirements

  • Maritime experience specifically in IT.
  • Diploma in IT or certifications such as Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent networking certificates, VMware VCA, or equivalent experience.
  • Able to read and annotate building drawings related to physical plant IT installation.
  • A fundamental understanding of networking switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi, SDWAN, VLANs and VPN, LAN & WAN concepts.
  • Experience with layer-2 and layer-3 network protocols and technologies, TCP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP.
  • A fundamental understanding of server infrastructure (VMware, HCI, Hyper-V), Netapp storage, clustered systems.
  • Strong technical skills with solid experience in managing Microsoft OS and Hypervisor environments (VMware, Hyper-V, HCI, VDI), backup & DR (Veeam & vSphere replication)
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows 7 - 11, Windows Server 2008-19, and Active Directory.
  • Experience with physical plants including racks, UPS power, patch panels.
  • Experience with communications such as VSAT, Iridium, LTE, FBB.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills.
  • Fast learner with demonstrated willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English especially in multinational corporation.
  • Fluent English mandatory with Mandarin a desirable.
  • Ability to work in a fast high paced environment.
  • Previous experience in the shipping industry is an asset.
  • Familiarity or experience with IoT is an asset.
  • Experience with scripting such as PowerShell is an asset.
  • Experience in IT solution implementation is an asset.
  • Fundamental understanding of onboard systems and operational technology such as CCTV, AMS.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IMO regulations, Vessel class requirements, Charterer requirements, understanding company policies and procedures.
  • Experience with tools like Ansible, Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code is an asset.
  • Experience in Cloud Technologies (Azure)

Job Demands and/or Physical Requirement

  • Must have a valid passport with at least six months validity.
  • No known restrictions preventing entry into foreign countries.
  • Able to lift 10 kg.
  • Sufficient mobility to complete cabling and setup tasks.
  • Required to travel to attend vessels up to 50% of the time, which could be up to 30 days of duration due to COVID-19 quarantine requirements.
  • This is a 24/7 environment and availability outside of office hours is required.
