THE JOB
Reporting to the Director, Community Relations & Marketing, the Associate Director (Community Relations & Marketing) will be responsible for the following duties:
- Develop and implement comprehensive public affairs, marketing, and community relations strategies to generate public interest in elite sports and inspire aspiring athletes;
- Design and execute crisis communication strategies to address negative publicity and safeguard the organisations reputation, ensuring consistent messaging across all internal departments;
- Lead and manage the development of an educational, personal, and social support system to facilitate elite athletes dual career development, balancing sports excellence with academic pursuits;
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, National Sports Associations (NSAs), media representatives, and potential sponsors;
- Oversee divisional administration, including budget preparation, resource allocation, and staff supervision, while effectively monitoring expenditures;
- Oversee operations, including the management of the HKSI Athlete Hostel and Sports Residence, as well as food and beverage services, ensuring these facilities support the overall mission of promoting elite sports;
- Lead and mentor teams, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities; and
- Perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by senior staff.
THE REQUIREMENTS
- A university degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field; a masters degree is preferred;
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with proven leadership skills in public affairs, public relations, or related roles, preferably within NGOs, public, or sports sectors;
- Proficiency in crisis communications and media relations, with the ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions for reputation management challenges;
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, NSAs, media representatives, and potential sponsors;
- Familiarity with government relations, corporate governance, and child protection is preferred;
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve organisational goals;
- High adaptability, with the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, and strong change management skills to swiftly re-prioritise tasks based on emerging projects;
- Excellent command of both spoken and written in English and Chinese, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively. Fluency in Putonghua is preferred; and
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and media monitoring tools.
