THE JOB
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Rehabilitation Trainer to join our multidisciplinary Sports Medicine Centre within the HKSI. The successful candidate will design and deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programs to support elite and developing athletes returning from injury toward full performance readiness.
Reporting to the Manager in the Sports Medicine Centre, the Sports Recovery Officer (Rehabilitation Trainer) will be responsible for the following duties:
- Collaborate with coaches, medical staff and performance staff to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach is utilised;
- Plan, prescribe and deliver appropriate exercise for rehabilitating athletes until return to normal play is achieved;
- Monitor athlete progress through qualitative and quantitative assessments;
- Assist in identifying potential risk factors and implement strategies to prevent rehabilitation delay and re-injury;
- Maintain effective communication of both current status and future plans with athletes, coaches, medical and performance staff to ensure all parties are aware of timelines regarding key markers of performance;
- Assist in the design and delivery of gym-based and field-based rehabilitation sessions, including functional movement and return-to-sport drills;
- Document all reports and plans of athlete status, rehab plans and outcomes and contribute to case discussions and performance reviews;
- Support performance and resilience initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement in rehabilitation standards;
- Perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by senior staff.
THE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, or a related field;
- Minimum 2 years of musculoskeletal rehabilitation related experience, preferably 1 year of experience working with elite or high-performance athletes;
- Data management skills, including advanced use of Excel;
- Strong understanding of functional and rehabilitation training, biomechanics and return-to-play protocols;
- Strength and Conditioning accreditation (e.g. NSCA CSCS, ASCA, UKSCA, or equivalent);
- Willing to work in irregular hours and work overseas;
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with staff members across;
- Excellent command of both spoken and written English. Ability to speak Cantonese and Putonghua is a definite advantage; and
- Awareness / knowledge of Child Protection in sport and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong are an added advantage.
