Job Description:
The Creative Technical Designer is responsible for translating creative concepts into precise technical drawings and plans that serve as the blueprint for fabrication, assembly, and installation of event elements within the Operations Department. This role sits at the intersection of creativity and engineering — bridging the vision of the sales and creative teams with the practical execution needs of the operations team.
Specializations within the Operations Department span Print, Creative Arts, Fabrication, Décor, Entertainment, and Logistics. The Creative Technical Designer's core areas of focus include R&D, Creative Collaboration, Technical Drawings, Concept Development, Project Updates, and Problem Solving. Through these processes, the designer produces technical plans that provide a clear overview for sales and clients, while guiding the operational team through each execution step.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed technical drawings and plans for event structures and components using industry-standard software, ensuring all drawings are clear, accurate, and conform to industry.
- Collaborate with the Creative Director to incorporate project specifications, timelines, material requirements, and budget constraints, translating these into comprehensive technical documents.
- Provide detailed assembly instructions and part lists to support the fabrication, décor, and production teams in the construction of event elements.
- Review and revise technical drawings in response to feedback from operational staff, event designers, and project managers to ensure final products meet design and quality standards.
- Maintain an organized library of technical drawings and documentation for future reference and compliance purposes.
- Partner with the sales and operations teams to understand creative concepts and translate them into actionable technical schematics for execution.
- Work closely with the Creative Director and project managers throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment between creative vision, technical feasibility, timelines, and budget.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach when identifying areas where additional support or input is needed, taking initiative to raise concerns or solutions early.
- Assist with the creation of CNC files and, when required, support machine operation.
- Maintain necessary tools, software, machinery, and equipment to ensure all projects and tasks are executed properly and efficiently.
- Participate in scheduled and ad-hoc meetings as requested by Leadership, Project Managers, and colleagues.
- Demonstrate consistently positive attitude and professional behavior in all interactions.
- Engage constructively with cross-functional teams, maintaining clear and timely communication throughout all project phases.
Qualification and Requirements:
- Proven experience creating technical drawings and schematics for event structures, fabrication, or a related field (e.g., production design, set design, scenic fabrication, industrial design).
- Proficiency in CAD or technical drawing software (e.g., AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Rhino, SketchUp, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret creative briefs and translate abstract concepts into precise, executable technical documents.
- Experience producing assembly instructions, part lists, and construction documentation for physical builds.
- Working knowledge of CNC file preparation; hands-on CNC machine experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with a thorough understanding of material properties, structural considerations, and industry standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Background in events, live productions, experiential marketing, or themed environments.
- Familiarity with standards and compliance requirements in event design.
- Experience collaborating remotely with cross-functional creative and operational teams.
- Strong organizational skills with experience maintaining structured digital file libraries and documentation systems.
