Prepress Graphic Designer (ZR-687)
Job Description:
Horizon Tech is looking for a Prepress Graphic Designer to be the bridge between creative files and the press floor. In this role, you'll prepare, preflight, and optimize customer and in-house artwork so every job runs clean the first time. You combine design sensibility with deep technical knowledge of print production bleeds, color management, imposition, and output workflows, and you take pride in catching the problems that would otherwise cost time, ink, and substrate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preflight incoming customer files and identify issues with resolution, color mode, fonts, bleeds, trim, overprint, and transparency before they reach the press.
- Prepare and correct print-ready files for [digital, offset, and/or wide-format] output, including building artwork to spec when files arrive incomplete.
- Perform color management and separations, ensuring accurate spot/Pantone and CMYK reproduction across substrates and devices.
- Set up imposition, step-and-repeat, nesting, and gang runs to maximize material efficiency.
- Generate, route, and review soft and hard proofs; communicate corrections clearly to clients and sales.
- Make minor layout, retouching, and typesetting adjustments while preserving the client's design intent.
- Manage output through RIP and workflow software, sending files to the correct devices with proper settings.
- Maintain organized file structures, naming conventions, and archives of production jobs.
- Collaborate with sales, customer service, and press operators to clarify specs and troubleshoot issues.
- Keep prepress documentation, templates, and dieline libraries current.
Required Qualifications:
- [2+] years of prepress or print production experience in a commercial print environment.
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite — InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro.
- Strong working knowledge of PDF/X workflows, preflighting, and file optimization.
- Solid understanding of color theory, CMYK/RGB/spot color, ICC profiles, and color management.
- Familiarity with print fundamentals: bleed, trim, registration, overprint, trapping, dot gain, and resolution requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to catch errors others miss.
- Strong time-management skills and comfort working against production deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication for working with clients and the production team.
