About the job US International Tax Manager
International Tax Manager
Location: United States (Remote)
POSITION SUMMARY
The organization seeks an International Tax Manager to assume overall leadership of its US and international tax practice. This is a management position with full accountability for the quality of the practice's technical output, the development of its professional team, and the strength of its client relationships. The Manager will define technical positions on complex cross-border matters, serve as the final point of review and escalation, and set the direction for how the practice is structured, staffed, and scaled.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Hold ultimate technical accountability for all US and international tax positions issued by the firm, acting as the final reviewer and the escalation point for complex or high-risk matters.
Lead the tax practice's LATAM-based professional team: set objectives, allocate work, evaluate performance, develop senior staff toward greater autonomy, and participate in hiring decisions as the team grows.
Own client relationships at the engagement level, leading advisory discussions, managing expectations and scope, and supporting the firm's business development efforts in prospective-client conversations.
Establish and govern the firm's cross-border structuring frameworks, deciding when existing structures should be revised and approving the design of new ones.
Define the practice's operating standards: review protocols, quality controls, documentation practices, and workflow design, including the prioritization of automation initiatives.
Serve as the tax practice's voice in cross-functional decisions, working with the product and operations leadership to shape a scalable delivery model.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Six to ten years of progressive experience in taxation, including substantial responsibility for international or cross-border matters.
A track record of managing teams of tax professionals, with responsibility for performance, development, and the quality of the team's output — not solely for reviewing individual deliverables.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing.
Demonstrated experience owning client relationships, including the ability to lead difficult conversations on scope, risk, and technical positions.
Sound professional judgment: the ability to take defensible positions under uncertainty and to know when a matter warrants escalation or external counsel.
A record of improving how a practice operates, whether through process redesign, quality frameworks, or the adoption of new tools.
PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES
Advanced proficiency in Spanish.
Prior experience serving startup or technology-sector clients.
Familiarity with, or interest in, artificial intelligence and automation as applied to professional services.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Genuine leadership of a practice, with the authority to make decisions that in a traditional firm would sit several levels above this role.
A direct working relationship with the founding team on the direction of the business.
The mandate and resources to build the practice's systems, standards, and team from a strong but early foundation.
A distinctive operating model that integrates professional services with product development.
