Overview:
We are currently looking for a mid-level Tooling Technician to join our team at our New York location. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of molds used in injection molding operations. This position requires hands-on experience in machining, fine grinding, and polishing, as well as the ability to diagnose issues with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components. The technician will work closely with production, maintenance, and processing departments to maintain mold performance, document work, and carry out routine preventative maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and comply with all safety and housekeeping standards; assist in improving these procedures.
- Operate machining tools including mills, lathes, grinders, and polishing equipment.
- Utilize and document measurements using metrology tools and instruments.
- Interpret mold blueprints, 3D models, and system schematics.
- Troubleshoot and understand basic hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems (such as valve gates, hot runners, motors, and cylinders).
- Apply knowledge of injection molding processes to identify and resolve cooling, venting, and tool wear issues.
- Communicate effectively with production, maintenance, and processing teams.
- Help document mold setup procedures and disassembly instructions.
- Manage daily tasks and priorities based on scheduler and IQMS system inputs.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities as outlined in the IQMS maintenance module.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience in a machine shop or mold maintenance environment.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits and hydraulic systems.
- Mechanical aptitude with a working knowledge of metrology tools and concepts.
- Comfortable using Windows-based computer programs.
- MIG or TIG welding experience is a plus.
