JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Deputy Project Director
Reporting to: Project Director
Duration of the contract: 18 months- 24 months depending on the project
Job Purpose:
To lead the project implementation team and functional workstreams to ensure the project delivers the business case objectives at best
possible value.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project manage the delivery and transition ensuring all work streams
(business and asset) are effectively mobilised to deliver the business case.
a. Optimise value through the timely mobilisation of the project
ensuring the right cross-functional tradeoffs are made.
b. Drive cost-effective use of external consultants and contractors.
c. Conduct proactive cross-functional stakeholder engagement and communication.
d. Drive the effective use of an integrated project schedule.
e. Ensure an effective and realistic resource plan is established
including proactive mobilisation of on-location project team.
f. Lead assigned project team resources from functions towards
successful teamwork.
g. Ensure there is clear accountability for all project deliverables.
h. Proactively bring forward issues and opportunites for leadership
attention ensuring these can be addressed early while the
opportunity to do so is largest.
i. Drive clear change management control for scope changes
ensuring impact is understood across all functional areas before
changes are pursued.
j. Ensure project reporting and documentation are well maintained.
k. Assess potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate
them, ensuring project success and compliance with safety
regulations. - Enable proactive engagement of head office and ensure their functional expertise is used throughout the project.
- Drive proactive preparation of material for decision makers.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders enabling proactive identification of issues and support in resolution.
Education, Experience and Skills required:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management,
Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. - Project Management Certification (PMP , CAPM , CBA or similar) is
advantageous. - At least 8-10 years of experience leading capital projects.
- Proven track record of success in managing complex capital projects.
Client side experience is a strong preference. - Experience with establishing port infrastructure including business rampup.
- Comfortable and experienced with engaging all levels of stakeholders.
- High energy profile driving discipline in using project management
structures across work streams.
