Position: Environmental Officer Biodiversity

Location: Reko Diq Mine Site Balochistan

Qualification:

Bachelors degree in environmental science, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity or ecological roles, ideally within the mining, infrastructure, or construction sectors

Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience with flora and fauna trapping, handling, and relocation techniques
  • Strong knowledge of local and regional species and ecosystems
  • Familiarity with relevant environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in field survey techniques (e.g., pitfall traps, camera traps, transects)
  • Basic knowledge of GIS, mapping tools, and biological data systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including reporting and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to work independently in remote and rugged field environments

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the successful implementation of Barricks Sustainability Policy & Procedures on-site.
  • Manage compliance with the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and support environmental monitoring, data collection, reporting, and community engagement activities.
  • Oversee environmental studies, budgets, presentations, and actively contribute to strategic meetings, developing, and implementing the ESMP, in accordance with national and local regulations.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Biodiversity Management and Action Plan on-site, ensuring alignment with regulatory and project commitments.
  • Coordinate and manage flora and fauna relocation and trapping activities to support biodiversity conservation.
  • Plan and conduct ecological field surveys, including pre-construction habitat assessments and ongoing species monitoring (both fauna and flora).
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive biodiversity records and reports, including trap data, relocation success, and species observations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental approvals, legislation, and permits concerning biodiversity.
  • Collaborate with the site team for regular follow-up and monitoring of construction activities, ensuring biodiversity protection.
  • Provide training and guidance to construction teams on biodiversity protection measures, buffer zones, and ecological sensitivities.
  • Liaise with environmental consultants, regulators, and stakeholders on biodiversity performance and outcomes.
  • Support progress reporting and contribute to environmental compliance audits and reviews.
  • Identify and implement adaptive management practices to adjust mitigation strategies based on monitoring data or changing site conditions.
