About the job Tax & Compliance Associate
Role Purpose
The Tax & Compliance Associate will support the Tax Lead in managing Company tax compliance, fiscal benefit administration, payroll tax calculation for both local & expatriate employees, and relevant tax-related record-keeping requirements. The role will provide exposure to diverse areas of taxation and compliance, while offering opportunities for professional development within one of Pakistan's most significant projects.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
- Assist in preparing and filing monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns (SRB & BRA monthly sales tax return, quarterly & annual income tax withholding statement, and annual corporate tax return of the Company).
- Support the preparation and submission of quarterly advance income tax workings and related filings.
- Maintain accurate records of all tax filings, assessments, and correspondence with tax authorities.
Fiscal Benefits Administration
- Prepare notifications and undertakings for major vendors to facilitate fiscal benefits, including zero-rating of federal sales tax on goods.
- Draft and issue notifications to vendors for exemption of sales tax on services related to capitalized expenditures.
- Liaise with vendors to resolve routine queries related to the Company's fiscal benefits regime.
Payroll & Expatriate Taxation
- Review and cross-check monthly payroll tax calculations prepared by a third-party payroll outsourcing services provider for accuracy of local and expatriate employee taxation.
- Support NTN registration and annual tax filings for expatriate employees.
- Maintain records of employee tax compliance and coordinate with the tax consultant for any correspondence with tax authorities.
Customs & Cross-Functional Support
- Support the Customs team in implementing fiscal incentives under the Foreign Investment (Promotion & Protection) Act 2022 regime.
General Support & Development
- Assist in responding to routine general tax queries from internal stakeholders (Finance, Customs, Procurement).
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field (CA trainee/part-qualified, ACCA, or ICMA preferred).
- 23 years of relevant experience in tax, audit, finance, or compliance (experience with a Big 4 or MNC is an advantage).
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Good knowledge of Pakistan tax laws, including Income tax, Federal Sales tax on goods, Provincial sales tax on services, and a good understanding of income tax, sales tax withholding taxes, and payroll taxation.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Good communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
