We are looking for a detail-oriented and certified Medical Coder to join our healthcare operations team. The ideal candidate will accurately review, analyze, and assign the appropriate medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered in various healthcare settings. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in the revenue cycle management process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review medical records, physician documentation, and clinical notes to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with official coding guidelines.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of coded data for Emergency Department (ED), Same Day Surgery (SDS), Inpatient, and Outpatient encounters.
- Verify codes for diagnoses and procedures to ensure proper billing and insurance claims processing.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and current coding standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation when necessary.
- Participate in ongoing coding audits, quality reviews, and training sessions to maintain high accuracy rates.
- Keep abreast of updates to coding manuals, payer policies, and medical terminology.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of BS Nursing or any medical-related field (e.g., Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, etc.).
- Must have an active and valid coding certification, such as:
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder)
- CPC-A (Certified Professional Coder Apprentice)
- At least 1 year of hands-on coding experience in any of the following areas:
- Emergency Department (ED)
- Same Day Surgery (SDS)
- Inpatient Coding
- Outpatient Coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficient in using EHR systems, coding software, and MS Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willing to work flexible schedules, including night shifts or U.S. hours if required.
