About the job Medical Coding Educator (Trainer) - With AHIMA/AAPC Certification
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid certification such as AHIMA CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or an AAPC credential relevant to the patient type.
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related Allied Health field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in medical record coding within an acute care setting, along with at least 3 years of experience in training medical coders.
- Preferably certified as an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer or an AAPC Certified Instructor.
- Willingness to work onsite is essential.
Additional Skills:
- Proficient in delivering training to adult learners, with sensitivity to the cultural diversity of training groups.
- Strong understanding of diagnosis coding guidelines, including facility-specific policies, official Coding Clinics, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Skilled in assigning appropriate PCS and CPT codes, as required.
- Working knowledge of the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), as applicable.
- Capable of reviewing documentation, codes, procedures, APCs, and/or DRG assignments for accuracy and completeness, and escalating discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Functional knowledge of facility Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, coding encoders, and other relevant support software.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a professional setting.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain focus and deliver work with high accuracy.
- Proficient in using office equipment, automated systems, and software applications required for the role.
