Job Summary:
The Warehouse & Logistics Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end planning, design, and implementation of warehouse facilities and logistics systems to support raw materials, finished goods, and packaging material handling. This role will focus on greenfield warehouse projectsbuilding the infrastructure from the ground upand on optimizing warehouse capacity, layout design, equipment movement, and inventory systems in an FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Warehouse Design, Construction, and Setup
- Lead the planning, layout design, and construction of new warehouse facilities, ensuring compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Develop technical specifications and space requirements (racking systems, aisle width, ceiling height, dock layout, forklift routes, staging areas, etc.) based on product characteristics and throughput requirements.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and MEP engineers during design and construction phases.
- Supervise contractors and ensure project milestones, budget, and quality standards are achieved.
Capacity Planning and Operations Engineering
- Conduct detailed warehouse capacity analysis, including calculation of pallet positions, line rates, throughput projections, and seasonal demand variations.
- Perform time and motion studies to analyze forklift movements, travel distances, and equipment utilization to improve material flow efficiency.
- Define and implement optimal storage strategies for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Develop models and tools to simulate capacity utilization and material movement.
Process Development and Systems Implementation
- Establish warehouse operational processes, including receiving, put-away, picking, dispatch, and inventory control.
- Implement KPIs and performance metrics to measure warehouse productivity, utilization, and accuracy.
- Deploy and maintain warehouse management systems (WMS) and integrate with SAP to monitor stock levels, bin locations, and material traceability.
- Drive automation and digitization initiatives to improve warehouse efficiency and accuracy.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with supply planning, production, procurement, quality, and logistics teams to align warehouse design and operations with overall supply chain strategy.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for all warehouse and material handling-related matters.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- At least 57 years of experience in warehouse design, layout engineering, or logistics systems within an FMCG or high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in greenfield warehouse setup and operationalization.
- Proficient in warehouse design software/tools (AutoCAD, simulation tools preferred) and ERP systems (SAP required).
- Strong knowledge of material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors), racking systems, and warehouse safety standards.
- Strong analytical, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or related continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of automation systems (ASRS, AGVs, conveyors, RFID, barcoding).
- Familiarity with building code compliance and occupational health & safety standards.
