About the job Cloud & Backend Engineer (Python/Kubernetes/DevOps) - Hybrid Porto (3 days/week office)
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Join a delivery team assembled for a Belgian Telecommunications client, working on cloud infrastructure, backend services, and DevOps in a modern, technically ambitious environment. This is a role for a mid-to-senior engineer who is equally comfortable writing backend code and operating containerised workloads in production — someone with an ownership mindset from commit to deployment.
Language: English B2 minimum | Level: Mid–Senior | Location: Porto (hybrid, 3 days/week in office)
PROJECT & CONTEXT
You'll be part of a cross-functional team building and operating a cloud-native platform for a Telco client in Belgium. The work spans backend service development, Kubernetes-based container orchestration, CI/CD pipelines, networking and security, and observability tooling. The stack is broad and modern — and you won't be expected to know everything on day one. The team values engineers who learn fast, collaborate openly, and take pride in delivering reliable, high-quality systems.
Stack: Python, Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, C, SQL, React — Kubernetes, Docker, LXC — GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, PyTest, Jest, Robot Framework — Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo — Nginx, Kong, Keycloak, IP networking, firewalling
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Up to 5 years of hands-on experience in software development and DevOps roles
- Strong command of at least one backend programming language — Python and/or Node.js preferred — with willingness to work across others as needed
- Practical experience building, deploying, and operating containerised workloads on Kubernetes in production environments
- Solid understanding of Linux environments and confident use of the command line
- Good grasp of networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, firewalls, and reverse proxies
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD, and a strong automation mindset
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues, drive defects to root cause, and deliver lasting resolutions
- Experience participating in code reviews and sharing knowledge constructively within a team
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
- Proactive approach to continuous improvement of development processes, tooling, and automation
- English B2 or above — required for daily collaboration with Belgian client and cross-functional teams
- Available for hybrid work in Porto, 3 days/week
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with observability tooling: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo
- Familiarity with security and identity tooling: Keycloak, Kong, Nginx, Aikido
- Exposure to Go or C in backend or systems programming contexts
- Experience with Ansible for infrastructure automation
- Working knowledge of React for occasional frontend contributions
- Proficiency in French or Dutch — a meaningful advantage given the Belgian client context
Compensation: €1700– €2300/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
