About the job Data Engineer ( DataStage) - Remote Spain
Data Engineer (DataStage/ETL) - Full Remote Spain
---
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Join a well-established organisation going through a significant data modernisation programme. This is a hands-on engineering role where your work will directly shape the quality and reliability of data products consumed across the business. You'll be working within a collaborative data team, partnering closely with data architects and designers to turn data models into production-ready solutions. If you're someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly, and isn't afraid to challenge a design when it matters, this is an environment where that attitude is genuinely valued.
---
PROJECT & CONTEXT
The team is focused on building and maintaining a scalable data pipeline ecosystem. You'll be developing data products from designer-provided models, ensuring data quality standards are met throughout, and deploying pipelines into scheduled workflows. The project involves working with established ETL infrastructure (DataStage) while applying modern data development best practices — including slowly changing dimension handling, robust data quality checks, and structured change management processes.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Proven hands-on experience with DataStage (ETL development, not just configuration)
- Solid understanding of data development techniques including Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Types 1, 2, 3) and Data Quality validation patterns
- Ability to translate a data model provided by a designer into a fully functioning, production-grade data product
- Experience deploying pipelines into scheduled environments and managing job dependencies
- Strong analytical mindset — able to interpret data requirements and identify gaps or inconsistencies before they become problems
- Proactive communicator who is comfortable engaging with IT processes: raising change requests, opening firewall ports, navigating change advisory boards (CAB), and supporting the TDA designer through technical blockers
- Confidence to constructively challenge data designs when development impact warrants it
- English proficiency required (working language of the team)
- Must be based in Spain

NICE TO HAVE

- Familiarity with data governance and metadata management practices
- Experience working within formal change management frameworks (ITIL or similar)
- Background in data warehousing concepts beyond SCD — partitioning strategies, indexing, and query optimisation
- Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Control-M, AutoSys, or equivalent
- Spanish language skills (advantageous but not required)
