About the job Data Platform Expert Engineer (AWS) - Full Remote PT
Data Platform Architect (AWS/dbt/Redshift) - Remote Portugal
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a senior architecture role at the heart of a large-scale data platform modernisation programme within a well-established enterprise organisation. You'll be stepping into a high-impact position with real design authority — shaping how data flows, transforms, and gets consumed across the business. If you thrive in environments where architecture decisions actually matter and you want to leave a lasting footprint on a platform built to scale, this is the role for you.
PROJECT & CONTEXT
The organisation is undergoing a significant investment in its AWS-native data platform, moving towards a modern, cloud-first architecture that supports both BI/reporting and advanced analytics workloads. You'll be defining the target-state architecture from the ground up — covering ingestion, transformation, cataloguing, consumption, and platform security — and working directly with engineering teams to make it real. The stack is well-defined, the business is committed, and there's genuine appetite for doing this properly.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

- Strong hands-on AWS architecture experience, with deep knowledge of: Amazon S3, Amazon Redshift, AWS Glue (including Glue Catalog), Amazon Kinesis, IAM, KMS, and CloudWatch
- Strong experience with dbt and SQL-based transformation design, including layering strategies, reusable models, and data quality controls
- Experience designing platforms that serve both BI/reporting (Power BI) and advanced analytics (Python / Amazon Athena)
- Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow or an equivalent enterprise-grade orchestration tool
- Solid understanding of RBAC, enterprise identity integration, and secure data access patterns
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DataOps practices applied to cloud data platforms
- Demonstrated ability to design ingestion architectures for heterogeneous enterprise source systems (structured and semi-structured data)
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience operating within design governance frameworks
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)
- Experience with API-based data access layer design
- Familiarity with multi-environment strategies (dev / test / pre-prod / production) in cloud data contexts
- Background in cost visibility and FinOps practices for AWS data workloads
- Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive industries
- Exposure to data mesh or data product thinking at an architectural level
