Database Administrator (Sybase ASE / Microsoft SQL Server) – Hybrid Porto Portugal (2–3 days/week office)

We are looking for a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join a high-impact data transformation initiative within a leading international organization in the financial services sector. This is an opportunity to contribute to a strategic modernization program, moving legacy database systems to a more scalable and efficient platform. You will work in a collaborative environment, leveraging modern tools—including AI-assisted solutions—to improve migration speed, accuracy, and reliability.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

This role focuses on the migration of databases from Sybase ASE to Microsoft SQL Server. You will be responsible for analyzing existing database structures, ensuring data integrity, and supporting performance optimization throughout the migration lifecycle. The project involves working in a complex, business-critical environment where minimizing downtime and ensuring consistency are key. AI-powered tools will be used to support schema conversion, code translation, and validation processes, making this a technically challenging and innovative assignment.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA)
• Strong expertise in Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server
• Hands-on experience with database migration projects
• Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, performance tuning, and query optimization
• Experience with backup, recovery, and high availability strategies
• Experience or exposure to AI-assisted tools for database migration or development
• Scripting skills
• Fluency in Portuguese (mandatory)

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• Experience with cloud environments (Azure or similar)
• Knowledge of ETL processes and data transformation tools
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Previous experience in financial services or regulated environments
• English language skills
