Senior Full-Stack Engineer (NestJS/React Native) - Full Remote Portugal

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Full-time, permanent position. We are hiring a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus to join the team building a greenfield digital platform for a well-established international client operating in the travel and leisure sector. This is a fully remote role for candidates based in Portugal, with optional access to modern offices in Porto, Aveiro and Coimbra whenever you want to connect in person. You will own end-to-end technical delivery of features, spending most of your time on backend architecture and the remainder on mobile integration and deployment. Fluent English (written and spoken, C1 level) is required for daily collaboration with international teams. Portuguese is not required. Expected travel: 0–15%, depending on project and organisational needs.

PROJECT & CONTEXT
The platform is being built from scratch inside a large enterprise ecosystem, which means you will regularly drive technical conversations, align infrastructure decisions and collaborate on architecture with neighbouring teams working in different stacks (Kotlin / Spring Boot). The engineering culture is lean and self-organised: teams own their projects collectively, decisions are made close to the code, and there is no politics standing between you and shipping. You will design scalable backend services, own enterprise-grade identity flows, manage CI/CD for both backend and mobile, and shape the data and caching layers that underpin the product.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• Proven experience operating at Senior level, driving architecture, data modelling and deployment strategies autonomously
• Deep, production-proven experience with Node.js (20 LTS / 22 LTS) and TypeScript 5.x, specifically using the NestJS framework (v10/v11)
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL 15/16: relational database design and query optimisation
• Solid experience with Redis 7.x for caching, session management and data structures
• Containerisation with Docker 24+ and Docker Compose, plus deploying and managing services on AWS ECS
• Strong familiarity with software design patterns and architectural rigour
• Hands-on experience with React Native (0.7x) and the Expo ecosystem (SDK 50+) for full-stack feature delivery
• Experience implementing complex identity and access management workflows with Auth0
• Strong automated testing mindset across unit, integration and E2E, on both backend and mobile layers
• Fluent English (C1 or above)

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• Exposure to enterprise ecosystems with multiple parallel engineering teams
• Familiarity with Kotlin / Spring Boot services for cross-team integration
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and AWS cost/performance optimisation
• Background in greenfield product development from zero to production
• Comfort using AI-assisted development tools transparently within an engineering workflow

Compensation: €2,200 – €2,700/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
