Senior AI Engineer (Python/LLMs/PyTorch) - Hybrid Lisbon (1–2 days/week, reducing to 1 day/month)

PROJECT & CONTEXT

As a Senior AI Engineer, you will design, develop, and deploy AI solutions leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) such as Large Language Models (GPT-class models), alongside advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques.

You will build Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and evolve them into scalable MVPs and production-grade solutions. The technical ecosystem includes frameworks such as PyTorch (v2.x), TensorFlow (v2.x), Keras, and orchestration tools like LangChain.

The role operates in a hybrid environment based in Venda do Pinheiro (Mafra/Malveira area), with an initial requirement of 1–2 days per week onsite, gradually transitioning to approximately 1 day per month. Full remote is not available.

You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data teams, integrating AI capabilities into enterprise systems and ensuring scalability through cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• Proven experience as an AI Engineer or Machine Learning Engineer in production environments
• Strong expertise in Python (3.10+) and software engineering best practices
• Hands-on experience with LLMs (GPT-like models) and Generative AI solutions
• Solid experience with PyTorch (2.x) or TensorFlow (2.x)
• Experience with AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain
• Strong knowledge of data manipulation tools (NumPy, pandas, Matplotlib)
• Experience delivering PoCs and scaling them into production-ready MVPs
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Strong ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Experience working in Agile and cross-functional teams
• Strong communication skills
• Languages: English (minimum B2 required)

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred)

• Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Hadoop
• Knowledge of MLOps, CI/CD pipelines, and model deployment strategies
• Experience with prompt engineering and LLM optimization techniques
• Familiarity with vector databases and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures
• Experience monitoring AI models in production environments
• Programming experience in Java
• Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills
• Academic background in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or a related field
