AI Engineer Senior - Full Remote PT

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A global technology and services organization operating in the energy sector is looking for a Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and operate production-grade AI capabilities embedded into real enterprise delivery. This is not a research role or a prototype environment — you'll be shipping AI components that actually run in production, integrated into complex platforms and maintained to engineering standards.

Full remote, consulting engagement, based in Portugal.

PROJECT & CONTEXT

You'll be joining an AI practice focused on building reusable, scalable AI capabilities: LLM-enabled workflows, RAG systems, and agent-based architectures integrated into enterprise applications. The team operates with production discipline — CI/CD alignment, evaluation frameworks, failure-mode handling, and operational handover are part of the job, not afterthoughts.

Beyond delivery, you'll contribute to internal reusable assets — reference implementations, patterns, templates, and delivery playbooks — and informally mentor more junior engineers. You'll collaborate closely with solution architects, platform engineers, and client stakeholders to translate real business problems into working AI designs.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Technical Skills

• Strong software engineering in Python (and/or TypeScript/C#), building API-first services and integrating AI from notebook to production
• Hands-on LLM application engineering: prompt design, tool use, orchestration patterns, and agent framework integration (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent)
• Solid retrieval and knowledge patterns: embeddings, vector search, indexing, and fit-for-purpose store selection (vector DB, relational DB, graph DB, cache) for RAG-style systems
• MLOps/LLMOps hygiene: experiment tracking, evaluation, packaging, and model/app versioning using tools like MLflow or equivalent
• Working knowledge of ML/GenAI concepts and common frameworks — PyTorch, Hugging Face where relevant
• Familiarity with cloud platforms — AWS, Azure, or GCP — and the practicalities of deploying AI services into real environments
• Production-grade engineering habits: testing, version control, CI/CD alignment, performance and scalability awareness
• Clear written communication — design notes, trade-off documentation, runbooks

Experience & Background

• Senior-level hands-on delivery experience with GenAI, including RAG pipelines and agent-based systems
• Proven ability to own small-to-mid AI workstreams end-to-end: from design through release and operational handover
• Comfortable working with architects and client stakeholders to shape integration patterns and API design

Languages

• English: C1 (Advanced) — mandatory. Client-facing and cross-team communication is in English.

Location

• Based in Portugal — mandatory for this engagement.

NICE TO HAVE

• Deep experience with RAG and agent-based architectures; familiarity with LangChain/LangGraph-style orchestration
• Hands-on with Kubernetes-native ML platforms such as Kubeflow and scalable pipeline patterns
• Exposure to industrial or OT-adjacent domains — asset management, transportation/logistics, or manufacturing data environments
• Familiarity with agent observability and evaluation tooling: tracing, evaluation harnesses, regression suites
• Experience managing cost and latency in production GenAI systems

Compensation: €2,340 – €3,120/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
