ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are supporting a confidential, well-established technology-driven organization that is scaling complex digital platforms used at enterprise level. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced Backend Engineering Leader who wants to influence architecture, mentor teams, and drive high-impact technical decisions while working in a modern, cloud-native environment. The role is open to professionals based in Portugal (Lisbon, Braga, or Coimbra), with flexibility for remote or hybrid work models.

PROJECT & CONTEXT
You will join a distributed engineering organization responsible for designing and operating large-scale, mission-critical systems. The environment combines strong engineering rigor with business alignment, requiring close collaboration with senior stakeholders across multiple time zones. The technology landscape includes Java 11/17, Spring Boot 2.x/3.x, RESTful APIs, SQL-based databases, Docker, Kubernetes (v1.x), and public cloud platforms such as AWS (EKS, RDS, S3) and Google Cloud Platform (GKE, Cloud SQL).

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

  • 5+ years of backend development experience using Java and Spring Boot
  • Proven experience designing, validating, and operating large-scale distributed systems
  • Strong system design capabilities comparable to top-tier engineering environments
  • Demonstrated people management experience, including performance and career development
  • Ability to define technical direction aligned with long-term business strategy
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Comfort working in high-ambiguity, remote or hybrid settings
  • English proficiency at B2 level or higher (fluency required)
  • Candidates must be living in Portugal
