Merchandiser (Japanese Speaking)
Overall Responsibilities
The Merchandiser plays a pivotal role in closely monitoring consumer demand patterns and market trends (specifically in SEA and Greater China) to determine which products will likely be in high demand. Drawing from their insights and analysis, he/she will curate a selection of products for sales, leveraging their negotiation skills to secure favourable prices and terms from suppliers.
Overall, you will be expected to perform end-to-end duties of forecasting sales, analysing trends, selecting products, negotiating prices, and overseeing distribution.
Main Responsibilities
- Researching and monitoring industry trends and consumer behaviours to anticipate demand and changes in buying patterns for our products.
- Creating and maintaining product catalogues and databases for the character brands.
- Working with suppliers and distributors to negotiate prices and order large volumes.
- Developing pricing strategies and monitoring price changes in the market.
- Communicating with suppliers to negotiate prices, delivery times and product quality.
- Preparing purchase orders and tracking deliveries to ensure timely receipt of products.
- Analysing and reporting on sales data to identify opportunities for product optimisation and pricing adjustments.
Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Merchandising, Business or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in merchandising, preferably in the retail or consumer services industry.
- Due to business requirements, ability to communicate/write fluently in English, Mandarin, and Japanese is a must.
- Experience in cost analysis, pricing and profitability management.
- Familiarity with export/import regulations and procedures.
- Understanding of quality control procedures and standards.
- Knowledge of supply chain management, inventory control and procurement.
- Experience in vendor management and supplier relationship management.
