Lead Backend Engineer (LatAm) - Python

We are looking for a Lead Backend Engineer with strong Python expertise and proven technical leadership experience to join our team. This role requires a hands-on engineering leader (5+ years) who can architect scalable systems, write production-grade code daily, and set technical direction while mentoring and elevating the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend architecture and system design across the platform.
• Write production-level code daily (approximately 60% hands-on development).
• Make critical technical decisions regarding tech stack, infrastructure, and scalability.
• Own the technical roadmap and drive backend initiatives from concept to deployment.
• Mentor and support senior and mid-level backend engineers.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices (code standards, testing, CI/CD, deployment processes).
• Collaborate closely with Product, DevOps, and Frontend teams to align technical and business goals.
• Participate in hiring and help scale the backend engineering team.

Key Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Python as a primary language.
• 2+ years leading technical teams or complex engineering projects.
• Deep expertise in modern Python web frameworks (FastAPI, Django, or Flask).
• Strong system design capabilities, including scalable and distributed architectures.
• Experience with databases, caching systems, message queues, and cloud infrastructure.
• Proven ability to make sound architectural decisions under real-world constraints.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and improving team performance.
• Comfortable operating in environments with ambiguity and rapid iteration cycles.

Technical Expectations

• Ability to design systems from scratch and clearly justify architectural choices.
• Write clean, maintainable, high-quality code that sets the standard for the team.
• Strong judgment on when to optimize and when pragmatic solutions are sufficient.
• Capability to debug and resolve complex production issues across the stack.

Nice to Have

• Logistics / trucking / fleet management experience (TMS, ELD, invoicing/factoring, IFTA, payroll)
