A private hospital based emergency centre in Somerset West, Cape Town is seeking to recruit either a Specialist Emergency Physician (FCEM/MMed) or a Specialist Family Physician (FCFP/MMed) with emergency centre experience to fulfil both clinical and managerial responsibilities. This opportunity is suited to an experienced specialist who can deliver high quality evidence based care while supporting operational excellence, governance, and the supervision of junior doctors.

Roles and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Provide specialist emergency medical care within a private emergency centre
  • Assess, diagnose, stabilise, and manage emergency presentations according to evidence based standards
  • Supervise and support junior doctors in clinical practice
  • Maintain accurate and timeous patient clinical records
  • Audit clinical documentation for quality care and billing optimisation
  • Coordinate patient dispositions safely and efficiently
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Collaborate with in hospital specialists, referring general practitioners, and emergency medical services
  • Participate in rostered clinical shifts and telephonic call duties
  • Manage allocated operational or managerial portfolios
  • Conduct clinical audits relating to patient outcomes and patient notes
  • Facilitate morbidity and mortality review meetings
  • Support achievement of emergency centre performance standards and quality outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance frameworks, regulations, and legislation

Requirements:

  • Specialist qualification as Emergency Physician (FCEM/MMed) or Family Physician (FCFP/MMed)
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist
  • Proven emergency centre or emergency medicine experience within a hospital setting
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior doctors
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance and audit processes
  • Willingness to work rostered shifts and telephonic call duties
  • Up to date specialist certification and CPD compliance
