About the job Medical Billing and Accounts Administrator, Northcliff – REF# IMR037-BA
A specialist ophthalmology practice in Northcliff, Johannesburg is seeking to recruit an experienced Medical Billing and Accounts Administrator. The successful candidate will be organised, proactive, and detail orientated, with strong medical billing, accounts, and administrative experience. This role is suited to an individual who thrives in a fast-paced specialist medical environment and can effectively manage billing, reconciliations, authorisations, patient accounts, and related administrative processes.
Roles and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Perform accurate medical aid billing using medical software
- Capture and submit medical aid claims
- Maintain billing sheets and update procedure and consumable codes where required
- Process surgery billing and medical aid submissions
- Manage medical aid reconciliations and follow up on outstanding accounts and queries
- Process and manage Workers' Compensation accounts and related documentation
- Reconcile remittances and invoices
- Generate patient invoices, statements, and account reports
- Follow up on outstanding patient accounts and debt collection processes
- Coordinate debt handovers to collection agencies when required
- Request and manage medical aid authorisations
- Liaise with patients, medical aids, and reception regarding billing matters
- Update procedure and ICD-10 codes where required
- Compile patient cost estimates and quotations
- Source consumables, place orders, and manage supplier invoices
- Resolve supplier account discrepancies
- Answer calls and assist with patient account enquiries
- Maintain accurate filing systems and administrative records
- Assist with general administrative duties
- Provide reception support when required
Qualification and Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12
- Previous experience in a medical accounts or medical billing role essential
- Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, medical aid claims, ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology
- Understanding of healthcare regulations, POPIA compliance, and confidentiality requirements
- Medical software experience in GoodX is essential
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport
- Fluent in English (verbal and written)

Work Hours:
