PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely develop, cut, fabricate/assemble, weld, and maintain metal components.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12/ STD 10 / NQF Level 4 is essential
- Recognised relevant Trade qualification (Section 13 or Section 26D with proof of training) is essential
- OR
- Proof of recognised completed apprenticeship contract (completed by means of effluxion of time)
- NTC 2 (relevant Trade Theory and specialised courses) is essential
- 3-5 years working experience as an artisan is essential
- Previous exposure working in the Boiler Maker Shop will be advantageous
- A valid drivers licence and own transport is essential
- A Valid Red Ticket or medical fitness to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES:
- Must be self-driven and highly motivated
- Must have the ability to maintain a high standard of work
- Must be willing to perform standby duties as and when required including stay-on
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Develop and fabricate from complex drawings, such as tanks, pipelines, frames, and structures
- Cut, drill and punch, assemble and mechanically join structural steel work
- Cut materials using the oxy-fuel gas cutting process (manual cutting) or hand tools (Cold Chisel and tin snips)
- Perform general maintenance on structures and equipment, such as surface locomotives, chutes, yellow fleet and pipelines
- Work with and around hazardous substances, heights, and confined spaces
- Operate a forklift and a cherry picker
- Perform legal inspections and record findings
- Manage and motivate a team and conduct on-the-job coaching
