PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To Manage an effective Rock engineering service that aims to maximise ore body exploitation with minimum levels of rock-related risk. Ensure the responsibility as competent person in terms of Regulation 14.1(8), of Mine Health and Safety Act (Act No. 29 of 1996).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 with Maths & Science is essential
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Mining Engineering/Geology/ Rock Engineering) or NQF Level 7 equivalent is essential
- Rock Mechanics Certificate is essential
- Advanced Rock Engineering Certificate is desirable
- MS Office Package is essential
- A minimum of two years working experience in a rock engineering department as an HOD at the shaft is essential.
- Hard rock tabular mining experience is essential.

- Mandatory Code of Practice to combat Rock fall and Rock Burst Accidents is essential

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Responsible for providing a safe mine and support design.
- Timeously input into mine planning and operations process
- Manage duties as the head of department (Rock Eng. Dept. on the shaft)
- Fulfil the responsibilities discussed in the mandatory Code of Practice to combat Rock fall and Rock Burst Accidents
- Provide guidance to training personnel with regards to strata control related risk and hazards in the workplace
