PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely inspect and maintain low voltage electrical equipment and machinery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Grade 12/NQF Level 4 is essential

Applicable Training Structures is essential.

Serviceman Certificate is essential.

Minimum 1-year experience as an Engineering Assistant is essential

COMPETENCIES:

  • Perform basic fire fighting
  • Perform basic first aid
  • Respond to hazardous and emergency conditions
  • Identify, inspect, use, maintain and care for engineering hand tools
  • Select, use and care for engineering measuring equipment
  • Select, use and care for electrical measuring instruments
  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace
  • Understand fundamentals of electricity
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the uses and safety aspect associated with flammable
  • energy sources
  • Demonstrate an awareness of customer service

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Installs batteries.
  • Cleans battery bay areas.
  • Maintains battery record systems.
  • Tests batteries for dead cells and replaces defective batteries
  • Wires domestic electrical circuits.
  • Tests and inspects single phase domestic installations.
  • Inspects, operates and maintains high mast lighting structures.
  • Inspects and cleans medium/high voltage yards and enclosures.
  • Fault finds, tests and repairs Domestic Appliances.
  • Repairs and maintains electric power tools.
