PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Operates a mobile mechanized axess rig underground according to the drill plan whilst adhering to the standard operating procedures and required mining and safety standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 /STD 10 (NQF 4) is essential.
- Axess Rig Competency Certificate is essential.
- 1-3 years' experience as Axess Rig Operator is essential.

- Planning and Organizing Skills
- Hand-eye co-ordination (Dover)
- RFAC and HTS (Rehabilitation Fitness Assessment certificate)
- HTS (Heat Tolerance Screening)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtains daily and weekly work instructions from the immediate Supervisor.
- Performs efficient Axess rig operation to achieve targets within set quality standards.
- Ensures tramming of machinery is according to standards.
- Adheres to standard for drilling both vertical and horizontal (face and support) using correct drill steel length.
- Must be able to work with someone assisting with drill steel extension and removal.
- Drill holes and install long anchors as per Mine standard and recommendations.
- Ensures that all work conducted is performed to the required safety standards and specifications.
- Always ensures safe and proper running of machinery
- Conducts basic maintenance activities on equipment – checklist to be completed before the shift.
- Adheres to traffic management procedure.
- Has knowledge of operation of fire suppression system of the machine.
- Has knowledge of process to follow in case of on-board fire.
- Reports any deviations (safety concerns) to the immediate Shift/team Supervisor.
- Reports any breakdown to control room and shift supervisor as per the procedure.
- Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary
