PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To supervise the safe, effective, and efficient operation of a designated section in the metallurgical plant

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 / Std. 10 (NQF Level 4) certificate is essential
  • Completed all relevant Plant Foreman modules and required Process Unit Standards is essential
  • Completed the Impala Supervisory Programme (ISP) is essential
  • Valid First Aid Certificate is essential
  • Minimum 3 Years experience as Plant Shift Leader is essential

COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Laboratory Processes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Plant Processes
  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Analyse and solve problems

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checks staffing figures at start of shift and ensures that all plant activities are functionally covered.
  • Familiarises him/herself with production process activities, trends and briefs operators accordingly at the start of each shift.
  • Takes corrective actions and instructs staff accordingly in significant deviations in the plant processing which may influence production or safety.
  • Ensures work schedules are adhered to.
  • Interprets information from plant readings and determines required adjustments to maximise production.
  • Meets daily operational targets.
  • Hands over shift reporting on all required information to the next Shift Leader
  • Performs such administrative functions as may be required.
  • Maintains a reliable reporting and communication system.
  • Completes Process Reports.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
