PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To supervise, monitor and control the provision of quality health care according to the professional standards required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12(NQF Level 4) certificate is essential
  • Nursing diploma/degree) is essential
  • Infection Control Certificate is essential
  • Registered as a nurse with the South African Nursing Council is essential
  • Nursing Management degree is desirable
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office) is essential
  • 3 years working experience as a professional nurse is essential
  • At least 6 months relieving experience as a Senior Professional Nurse would be advantageous
  • Experience in infection prevention, epidemiology or public health is desirable
  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

COMPETENCIES:

  • General Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health Nursing and Psychiatry
  • Dispensing, Primary Health Care and Occupational health
  • Trauma knowledge, Knowledge of ARV/Wellness and TB
  • In-depth understanding of infectious diseases, microbiology, and epidemiology
  • Knowledge of national and local infection prevention guidelines (e.g., CDC, WHO)

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Identifies and determines the departmental needs and resources to ensure smooth running of the department.
  • Monitors and controls activities within the department by effective supervision, continuous in-service education and coaching in accordance with the relevant laws that governs the nursing profession.
  • Facilitates and liaises with other departments within IMS, Impala and external service providers.
  • Provides effective management of information through the reporting of statistics, and feedback.
  • Facilitates the delivery of cost effective and efficient primary health care to patients according to budgetary constraints.
  • Promptly attends to customer/clients' concerns and complaints.
  • Is responsible for ordering, storage and maintaining correct stock levels of medication according to the Department of Health (DOH) regulations.
  • Responds and assists in emergencies at and around the clinics.
  • Ensures the effective management of ARV, Wellness and TB patients.
  • Supervises flow and well-being of patients/clients to maintain order at the clinic.
