JOB TITLE Senior Plant Operator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• 5 O levels including Mathematics, English and Science
• Diploma in Mineral Processing/Extractive Metallurgy.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience as a Junior Plant Operator in a Smelter or Concentrator.
• Minimum of three (3) years experience in a Smelter Operation will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of the Business Management System (BMS)

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

• A self-starter with excellent interpersonal, planning and problem-solving skills
• Supervisory experience is a must
• Good communication and organisational skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Enforce safety, health and environmental standards in the plant, and highlight for further investigation and improvements operational, safety, health and environmental issues to ensure sustainable operation of the plant
• Liaise with Field operators to institute/implement plans to meet production plans.
• Logging of information of equipment availability and Process and Risk Monitoring data
• Control operations using SCADA in conjunction with Field Operator
• Supervise junior employees within the smelter with respect to monitoring and data capture
• Ensure risk mitigation systems (i.e. CCTV and emergency siren) are operational
• Implement plant operating strategies to improve performance and meet business plan objectives
• Notify the Shift Superintendent on equipment and plant malfunctions or breakdowns
• Assist in the coordination of planned and unplanned shutdowns to ensure sustainable plant operation.
• Ensure availability of and enforce operating procedures for all critical tasks to ensure a safe, efficient and cost-effective operation.
• Issuance of work permits before starting work on equipment.
• Support the Business Management System (BMS)
