About the job Protection Services Officer

  • PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
  • To act as liaison between the company and security contractors, to supervise and ensure security contractors meet requirements as stipulated in contracts and to provide an advisory service to management and employees on security related issues.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Relevant NQF Level 6 qualification in Security- or Police Management essential.
  • PSIRA Grade A certification essential.
  • Valid driver license and firearm competency required.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years relevant experience in specialised industry previous SAPS, Prison or SANDF experience will be an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in the mining- or refining industries will be a definite advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation i.e. Criminal Procedure and Precious Metals Acts.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in investigation techniques, CCTV / integrated systems, fingerprint techniques and security and risk practises.
  • Sound investigation-, conflict handing-, communication and interpersonal skills essential.
  • Must be detailed conscious, with adequate problem solving and time management skills.
  • Medically fit for both plants (PMR and BMR).
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promote security awareness ensuring all managers, employees and contractors are aware of security policies and procedures.
  • Supervise security contractors and conduct regular operational meetings.
  • Present security induction and conduct security audits and take corrective action.
  • Control and monitor security systems i.e. Low Dose Scanner, CCTV systems etc.
  • Identify and investigate breaches of security procedures.
  • Establish effective working relationships with security contractors and the SAPS.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental, quality and safety requirements and procedures.
  • Attend to after-hours complaints and investigations and perform standby duties.
  • Conduct locker- and plant searches.
  • Conduct administrative duties, submit weekly reports, review control sheets, take statements etc.
