PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To assist production personnel to maintain safe and stable mining excavations by over inspecting workplaces to ensure adherence to mining layouts and support standards, conducting quality control of support type selection and support installation and coaching production workers and supervisors regarding identification and treatment of geotechnical hazards and conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 (NQF 2) with Maths & Science is essential
  • SAQA National Certificate in Strata Control Operations - Level 2 (Qualification ID No 59549)
  • OR Occupational Certificate: Mining Technician (Strata Control Observer: Underground Hard rock) NQF Level 03 (Qualification ID No 96464) is essential
  • Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certificate is desirable
  • Rock breaking (Blasting) certificate is desirable
  • 2 years underground experience (General) is essential of which stoping and development are preferred
  • Valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate

COMPETENCIES:

  • Report writing skills are essential.
  • Install and take readings from instruments
  • Conduct general office administration skills is essential
  • Issue correct documents after inspections
  • Must have Strata Control Terminology, concepts, and principles on an elementary level of knowledge
  • Must be able to communication stakeholders from various levels

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Assist in ensuring a safe, stable, and productive working environment.
  • Ensure awareness of geotechnical risk amongst production personnel.
  • Ensure secondary support work is conducted to the correct standard
  • Apply proper risk management principles through participation in cross functional team activities
  • Provide records relating to workplace inspections, the conditions encountered with the appropriate remedial actions recommended.
  • Comply with legislative requirements, company policies and procedures and leading practices.
  • Assist in the investigation of rock related incidents and accidents
