PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To conduct surveying, data collection, analysis, and reporting into information system for survey and valuation on the mine. To perform survey work within the allowable limits of error in accordance with chapter 17 of the MHSA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4) is essential

• Computer literacy MS Office package

• Basic Sampling Certificate essential.

• Basic Survey Certificate essential.

• 2 years survey and sampling experience

• 2 years stope survey and measurement experience
• Valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate

COMPETENCIES:

• knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in and around a workplace
• understanding of the identification of and dealing with rock strata conditions
• Demonstrate knowledge of the most common harmful gases and vapours

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Performs underground excavation measurements
• Installs survey pegs.
• Installs direction lines and grades mainly in stopes.
• Measures excavations underground.
• Gather information pertaining to the surveying of pegs.
• Obtains the Miners permission to enter the workplace and notifies all personnel at workplace of Surveying activities.
• Determines the precise location of work area and survey points (including new survey points).
• Tests the hanging wall and assess the general safety of the work area.
• Survey pegs in accordance with standards by utilising the Theodolite.
• Establishes side-grade pegs in a flat development end.
• Offsets the working area.
• Captures survey data on the MRM System.
• Plot. and project. survey points.
• Checks angles and distances on plan.
• Plots offsets and makes corrections where necessary.
• Writes survey notes to mining team.
• Ensures Survey Plans comply with legal requirements.
• Establishes survey control and aligns drilling machines.
• Conducts Engineering Surveys
