About the job Safety Officer Mining
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To ensure compliance to legislation, mine policies, code of practices, standard rules, and procedures in respect of safety issues in a designated area of responsibility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12/NQF Level 4/STD 10 is essential.
- Blasting certificate is essential.
- COMSOC 1 and 2 (Mining) is essential.
- Computer Skills (Ms Office: - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) is essential.
- Relevant accident/incident/root cause analysis methodology is essential.
- Minimum of 3 yrs underground mining experience is essential.
- Diploma in Mining Engineering OR NADSAM is advantageous.
- Must have a valid medical certificate or be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate.
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of Standards and procedures is essential.
- Must have knowledge of Underground Mining
- Must have knowledge of Risk Assessment
- Basic health and safety skills is essential.
- Must have skills of Firefighting, Gases and Vapours
- Administration Skills and people supervision are essential.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Ensure Compliance with the legal requirements in respect of health, Safety and Environment as specified in the Minerals & Regulations and the Mine Health Safety Act.
- Assist with conducting Issue-Based, continuous Risk Assessment, hazards identification and monitoring risk assessments in the workplace.
- Ensure that safety and follow-up audits are conducted and to assist in formulating action plants to promote Health & Safety.
- Ensure proper reporting and investigations on workplace incidents, pre-use safety audit inspection and implementation of remedial actions that prevent repeated incidents.
- Monitor and make recommendations on the application of health and safety principles regarding the prevention of fires and protection system in the place.
- Monitor and make recommendations on the application of health and safety principles regarding all equipment/machinery, hazardous substances, and environmental factors in the working place.
- Conduct targeted training and development using given methodology, perform one-to-one training on the job and coach team member in order to enhance individual performance in the work environment.
- Analyse and report on safety statistics and propose and implement initiatives to reach safety targets.
